The Calgary Performing Arts Festival (formerly the Kiwanis Festival) is one of North America’s largest amateur festivals, featuring over 10,000 young performers. The festival, which is free to attend, runs during March and April and presents amateur artists from a variety of performance arts disciplines. Participants perform, receive adjudication from experts in their fields, and share their love of performing arts with audiences.
On Wed. April 22 ProArts presents the following:
1) The chamber ensemble Two Third Ninth Trio features Angela Ryu – violin, Solina Lee – cello and Allison Hillier – piano.
2) classical pianist Anastasia Kulikova. Seventeen year old Russian born pianist Anastasia Kulikova moved to Calgary where she continued her extensive music studies with Dmitry Nesterov at Mount Royal University Conservatory of Music. Since then, Anastasia has competed annually with great success at the Calgary Performing Arts Festival, Calgary Concerto Competition and the Canadian Music Competition. This year Anastasia was chosen as the youngest of the 3 participants in Calgary Pro Musica’s Young Artist Development program which focuses on career development as well as public outreach. In May, she will represent Calgary at the Alberta Music Festival in the Senior Piano category. See her performing Chopin on this you tube link.
As has been our tradition over the past many years, ProArts is proud to present an award winning young artist from this year’s Festival.
